Spots of Chandigarh
Sukhna Lake
On the south eastern boundary of the city is the seasonal rivulet
Sukhana choe. The planner of the city through their imagination,
created a lake by obstructing the flow of rain water through
the Sukhana Choe. A three and half km long dam was built to
create a reservoir of water. Now known as Sukhna Lake. People
generally come here for a morning or evening walk.
Rock Garden
Rock Garden, a creation of Nek Chand is a world famous fantasy
located in the city of Chandigarh. Situated in the thick forest
area, this garden holds its own charms for the visitors. It
is full of objects built from household and industrial waste.
There are no flowers or plants in this garden. The object
to be seen there are the figure made of raw cement resembling
humans and animals. These figures have been decorated with
broken but colourful odds and ends of China clay.
The Museum and Art Gallery
This museum itself is a great work of art. Historical and
modern paintings and sculpture of vast range are housed in
this museum. Apart from these rich collections of rare pieces
of art the complex also houses museum of Evolution and the
exhibition gallery housing interesting features.
The Open Hand Monument
One of the most significant monuments planned by Le Corbusier
in Chandigarh is the Open Hand. Rising 85 feet high from a
sunken trench, a giant hand in metal sheets is designed to
rotate like a weather cock, not to show the incertitude of
ideas, but to indicate symbolically the direction of wind.
It is also meant to convey a message of peace "open to
receive." Amongst the other monumental places to visit
in Chandigarh are the Tower of Shadows, Geometric Hill, and
Martyr's Memorial. DLF Valley Panchkula
