Metropolitan Development Authority - CMDA
Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority is a statutory organisation
of the Tamil Nadu Government which is constituted under the
Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act of 1971. The organization
is presently headed by the Hon'ble Minister for Housing
as its Chairman.
The key responsibilities of the organisation
include regulation of physical developments within Chennai
Metropolitan Area on planned lines. For this purpose CMDA
has prepared a Master Plan which designates the land
use permissible in every part of the Chennai Metropolitan
Area.
CMDA’s key functionalities
includes:

Preparation of development plans viz. Master Plan/ Detailed
Development Plans for spatial development of Chennai Metropolitan
Area, with a public consultation process. |

It identifies, formulates and implements projects including
those envisaged in the plans. It also regulates developmental
activity in accordance with the rules. |

It co-ordinates and monitors projects executed through
Government Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations and
Community based Organizations. |
